Integrative Approach
We treat the whole person in Body, Mind, and Spirit. We consider our approach to be “integrative” because we realize getting better usually means using mainstream treatments combined with methods from multiple complementary and alternative disciplines. After a thorough evaluation we combine methods such as counseling, nutritional therapy, biofeedback, and even medicines to treat the real problems, not just the symptoms. We view psycho- pharmaceuticals as a bridge to improve mental health but not the only or final option.
So, what do we mean when we say we treat the whole person? We view the Self as a combination of the body—including your brain—with your mind and your spirit. Our selves interface with our environment by interacting with people, eating, and just living. The combination of these interactions determine how we function. We seek to change how our patients function for the better.

Individual Solutions
We don’t treat conditions or diagnoses. Each patient’s environment, medical history, lifestyle, and body are unique. We treat the unique issues of individuals. Our treatments generally involve a combination of the following concepts:
-
Repair what’s irregular
- Remove what’s offending
- Replace what’s missing
Insurance/Payments
At 17th Avenue Psychiatry we are a fee-for-service practice. We have a different view of insurance than much of the medical profession: we don’t accept it. We realize our policy may seem unusual, but taking insurance companies out of the equation is best for our patients. Insurance companies place unreasonable requirements on treatments, care options, and the amount of time a physician can spend with patients.
Because we use such comprehensive and integrative treatment plans, filing with insurance companies to justify each treatment option would be far too time consuming and uncertain. However, many of our patients are able to receive reimbursement for our services when they file on their own. We provide monthly statements with all the information you will need for submission. While we can’t do it for you, we’re happy to give you some guidance in this area.
